Esther Angelica Ancrum is a DGA film director whose work blends faith, science, and human emotion. She joined the Directors Guild of America in 2024 and made her directorial debut with Esther’s Interstellar Vision, a poetic short film that mixes real astrophotography, NASA’s sonification of space, and a gentle love story set under the night sky. The film has screened at festivals and won an audience award.
Esther is at the beginning of her directing career and is building her body of work step by step. She is focused on clean visuals, emotional storytelling, and simple ideas that stay with people. She is developing new projects in commercials, vertical films, music videos, shorts, and features as she continues to grow her directing sample and reel.
Before becoming a director, Esther gained hands-on experience in the film industry as a production assistant and video assist technician, working on major films and television shows. She is certified through IATSE Local 695 and completed training in Unreal Engine and LED wall technology, which gave her a strong foundation in virtual production.
Esther draws inspiration from her family, especially her father, Wayne Ancrum, a respected set lighting technician with IATSE Local 728 who has worked in the industry since the 1970s. His dedication to the craft has shaped Esther’s passion for filmmaking and creative expression.
This trailer is from my first short film, Esther’s Interstellar Vision. It blends real astrophotography, my poetry, and NASA’s sonification of the Big Bang. The film follows a young astrophotographer as she explores the night sky and her connection to the universe. It has no dialogue, only visuals and emotion.

My short film Esther’s Interstellar Vision has been honored at festivals around the world. It has received recognition as an Audience Award winner, Honorable Mention, Semi Finalist, Nominee, and Official Selection in categories like Best Experimental Film, Best Experimental Short, and Sci Fi.I am grateful for every festival that believed in my first film and gave it a place to shine.

I am able to direct both union and nonunion projects. If a project starts nonunion, I can help bring it into the DGA union so the production is protected and handled the right way. I also understand that every project has its own budget, and I’m open to talking about rates that fit small, medium, or larger productions. My goal is to do honest, strong work with good people, no matter the size of the project.
I’m grateful to have a strong creative team by my side, led by my producer and assistant director, Dave Goldfarb. He is a true veteran in the film industry with more than 30 years of experience as a DGA assistant director.
Dave has worked on well known films and popular TV shows, including Baywatch, Star Trek, Insecure, and many others. He brings real knowledge, stability, and support to every project. He has been an important part of my journey, and I trust his guidance fully.
If you are looking for a producer, he is someone I would strongly recommend. You can reach out through my contact page, and I can connect you with him directly.
Together, we focus on creating work with heart, purpose, and strong visual storytelling.
My work is driven by clear visuals, emotional honesty, and strong storytelling. I focus on creating narrative films and commercials videos that inspire people to think, reflect, and see the world in a new way. I am particularly drawn to stories that blend faith, science, and human experience, and I enjoy crafting images that feel both meaningful and cinematic.
On set, I direct with a steady and organized style. I communicate clearly with my actors and crew to ensure everyone understands the tone of each scene. I believe that performances should feel natural and grounded, so I work closely with actors to evoke true emotion.
Additionally, I have a growing background in technical filmmaking, including astrophotography, LED wall work, and Unreal Engine. I find joy in merging real science with creative visuals to offer a fresh perspective in my projects.
My goal is to infuse purpose, imagination, and striking visuals into every project I undertake, whether it’s a short film, a feature, a commercial, a vertical video, or a music video. I aspire to create work that lingers with people long after they watch it.

I am building my directing reel and open to creating new projects in commercials, vertical films, music videos, shorts, and features. I have training with IATSE Local 695 and hands-on experience with Unreal Engine from a full mock LED wall production setup, where I worked with virtual environments in a real on-set style. This training helps me bring fresh ideas into virtual production and blend practical filmmaking with new technology.
